Ideas for the Adventurous
Photographs by Matt and Maria Medina

When Matt, his wife Maria, and their teenage son, Stone, vacation the sky’s the limit…literally.  They love camping.  Not motor home camping, but the real deal; with tents, ice chests, campfires and marsh mellows.  Their idea is to commune with nature.  To  be free to roam, to explore all of God's beauties and wonders.  Once a year they take off for parts unknown, to discover and experience the mysteries that are patiently awaiting their arrival.

Before leaving, they decide which state they would like to visit, but nothing more specific.  And, it makes their time together fun for they never know where their final destination lies.  Their sense of adventure and desire to go where no man has gone before (or at least not many men) is what inspires them year after year to take off for parts unknown.  Some great parts and some not so great; but always interesting.  This summer they headed for Colorado and ended up at Mesa Verde National Park.

That was Then

Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years; from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300.

This is Now

Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings.  These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States U.S. National Park Service.
